TikTok Takes Over
One of the most popular apps currently is one named TikTok. TikTok is a Chinese video-sharing app that has grown in popularity among teenagers and Generation Z. Many know of TikTok now, but few know where it began. TikTok is owned by a company named ByteDance, a Chinese technology company. Founded in 2012 by Zhang Yiming, ByteDance owns a number of successful social networking apps. In 2016, a new short-video app was launched in China by ByteDance called Douyin. The app reached 1 billion views per day within a year of its release. Douyin later expanded that reach internationally receiving a new name; TikTok.
The anticipation of the unknown. I believe that is what makes this app so popular. If you look back to the similar to this like Vine, Musical.ly, iFunny, etc., you see each had a common theme. iFunny consisted of mostly memes and few videos. Vine was known for its short and funny videos, and Musical.ly for short music videos or song covers. Each app had its "thing." TikTok combines theses apps into something greater. Combines the short videos with memes and music to one single platform. It brings something new to the table while also keeping that familiarity. I have fought myself for a while now to resist giving into the trend of getting TikTok because, knowing myself, I would spend a lot of time on the app. I alwasy seem to fall into those late-night spells where you are scrolling and scrolling on your feeds watching one video after another without being able to put the phone away. I watch a number a TikTok videos on Instagram already and they have kept me up later than I'd like to admit. ByteDance has created a phenomenon, and with their popularity still growing, I do not see it dying down anytime soon.
Until Next Time,
James

Thanks for sharing ,

I liked to read a little about these apps as I usually don't use them. I may watch TilTok videos on Instagram and that's it. Anyway, it is cool that people produce a lot of new and good apps. If it becomes popular it means people need it.
ReplyDeleteThe TikTok craze is real. I have had it for a couple months now and I still get on it every day. Personally, I would suggest that you get it, but I can definitely say that there are some nights where I fall down that rabbit hole and watch videos for hours.
