My First Tweet
For my Social Media Principles class, we had to live tweet an event for homecoming weekend here at ONU. Now at first it might seem like an easy assignment, but if you don't have a Twitter account, then it is a bit of an issue. Now I know what you're thinking, "James how do you not have Twitter, everyone has it." Honestly, I'm not entirely sure why I never made one for myself. I had gone so long without it that I just kept on doing so. Now that I have to make one, I started thinking of all that goes into it. I have to pick a good username, profile pic, cover photo, and my bio has to unique too. So after about an hour doing all that, I was finally ready to get started on my assignment.
I picked the homecoming dance mainly because it was one of the only events I would have been able to attend. The one thing about being on the football team during weekends like this is all of our time is devoted to the sport and we rarely get to attend outside events while in season. I am also on the Reslife staff and with the homecoming dance being a requirement, this was a great way to satisfy both agendas. The homecoming dance took place on the tundra, which is a huge grass field in the middle of campus. We hung balloons with lights in the tress, had decorated tables spread out, and glow sticks to pass out for people to make necklaces, bracelets, or crowns. I took a bunch of glow sticks and put them in my hair to make my hair glow.
I did not expect to have as much fun as I did. It was great to see all of the students come out even though it was cold outside, it was great to see everyone out there enjoying dancing, laughing, and singing along to all the songs. We had line dances, throwback songs, and a multitude of voices trying to get in tune with the artists. If you would like to see more of what happened, click this link for my twitter account and you can catch some of the pictures/videos from the night. Above is a picture of some of my closest friends on campus. While the conditions were not ideal, the company was incredible. Community, that is what brought me to ONU and what I was glad to see in the people who attended the homecoming dance.
Until Next Time,
James
