Twitter-less in Ada

Image result for twitter

I cannot even begin to express how many times I have had the same conversation about following my friends on Twitter. There are 326 million monthly users on twitter, of which I am not one. Why that is, I'm not entirely sure. Twitter just seems so different to me than other social media sites. For personal use I can get by with only making Instagram posts or Snapchat occasionally. With Twitter, somehow, I feel a constant need to produce content. I think to myself what if I don't know what to say. In our book "The Art of Social Media" by Guy Kawasaki, different aspects of Twitter are laid out in efforts to helps us utilize that social media platform to our advantage. I really enjoyed reading about the live Twitter chats and how you can participate open in the forum although there is still that part of me that wonders if I would have something meaningful to add.

I think I have grown fond of saying I do not have Twitter and the surprised look on people's faces, but maybe I have adopted this idea that I don't know how to use it therefore I do not. Instead of learning, just as I have with other accounts, I have become content with balancing my presence on other social media platforms and that with the seemingly large amount of content produced on Twitter; it keeps me at bay. In my Intro to public relations class, we have weekly news quizzes and many of the students rely on Twitter for their source of news. I thought it was funny that using Twitter was although the way the "study" for the quiz and me not having one was comparable to me not doing my homework. I have never truly felt that I was missing out on much by not being active on Twitter, but now I look at it as if I am holding myself back and should experiment with the new. Now, this post isn't long and insightful by any means, but a way of sharing my thoughts with you. This is me hashing out why I don't have an account, and judging from this post, there does not appear any good reason as to why. My thoughts have only limited me from something that could potentially have a positive impact. I think I'll give it a shot.

Until Next Time,
James

  1. Hey, James, I like your thoughts about Twitter. I do not use Twitter too, but I know a lot of celebrities, politicians, newsmakers produce material on that site that needs to be discussed. Just paying attention to what Trump posts on Twitter and how his posts influence inner and international politics. I tried reading Twitter a lot of times, following popular bloggers but I am becoming tired of Twitter so quickly, that I stop and read the analytical articles or posts of "what other people did on Twitter" on other platforms.

  2. Very interesting take on Twitter here and I admit it is rare to find someone who does not use Twitter these days. I use it way too much personally but I use more for news or to smile about something. It is a nice break from life and can really make you laugh or inform you on something new. I know some students here prefer to follow nobody on campus so they keep their Twitter handle and account a secret from everyone. I could care less who sees my Twitter personally.

  3. I like twitter because I have crafted my feed to show things I want to see. I like the funny, witty, and creative atmosphere. I feel less pressure with twitter vs Instagram because Instagram I feel puts more pressure on how you look. Twitter allows me to really be myself & say what I want to say & repost content that I connect with.
