Living in a Fantasy

Fantasy Football. This is a beautiful creation that allows individuals from across the globe to partake in some friendly competition. In fantasy football, you participate in a draft where you pick players from all 32 NFL teams to be on yours. You have a certain number of players to draft and a certain number of positions to fill. Once the season starts, you earn points based off your players performances in real life. That's all there is to it; or is there? Fantasy is much more complex than most give it credit for. There are thousands of leagues vary in competitiveness. Millions of dollars have been won through these competitions.

Since my junior year in school, my friends have taken fantasy very seriously. They discuss in detail the strategies, analytics of players performances, projected scores, comparison of teams and many more details surrounding fantasy football. I, on the other hand, have always treated the game of chance as such. I never really tried to be "good" at fantasy. I merely did it for the experience. However, this year I decided I was going to give it a real shot. Pay more attention to the reports on plays, the data collected, and prepare a strategy. My draft went very well and on paper I had the best team out of all my pat years. Imagine my surprise at it is now going into week four and my team has performed the worst of all my teams.

In my mind I'm thinking, how can a game of pure chance despise me so?  My starters go down with injuries and now I have no idea the direction this season will go. While at times participating in fantasy does cause headache, it is a very enjoyable experience that has provided an outlet for our love of sports. Although my team did not have the best start, I am still very optimistic about our chances this year. Wish us luck!

Until Next Time,
James

  1. I have played fantasy football one time in my life and I would concur that it is more about the fun experience than it is about winning every single game. Granted, this is coming from a guy that drafted three quarterbacks in the first three rounds. So, that should tell you something about my expertise in fantasy.

  2. Hello,
I have personally never played fantasy football but it is something I would enjoy attempting. I have always been a college football fan. Go Bucks! NFL has been brought to my attention this past January. For right now, I am a Patriots fan, but as I know more of NFL I may gain more favorite teams.
    Thanks for sharing,
    Alyson
