Fortnite is the
most popular video game in the world. Epic Games, the parent company, launched the game in the early 2010's. Now, in 2019, Fortnite has passed 250 million players. Fortnite has grown to host competitive events for amateur and professional video game players. Among those professionals is a
FaZe Jarvis. Jarvis Kaye is a member of the FaZe clan. FaZe clan is an esports organization that competes is video game tournaments. Jarvis was permanently banned from playing Fortnite because he used aimbots to cheat. Aimbots are a software that allow you to shoot other players without using the controls to aim. They allow you to give yourself an almost unbeatable advantage in the shooter games. FaZe Jarvis thought using them for fun or as a joke would be a creative idea for a video. He released an apology video stating he never meant for any of this to happen. Jarvis regularly made YouTube videos of him playing the game. This was a mainstream of revenue for him and what started as something fun to do for fans has completely changed his life.
Epic Games has a "zero-tolerance" policy and using cheat codes or programs is punishable by ban. Jarvis is banned for life from playing Fortnite for his action using aimbots. The reason I bring this story up is the outburst on social media that has occurred due to this story. Many fans took to social media bashing Epic Games for banning FaZe Jarvis while others stated that he knew the rules and now must accept responsibility for his actions. Fans questioned the harshness of Epic Games bringing up other accounts where other professional have cheated in competitions that involve winning money not given a lifetime ban while Jarvis made a video for fun and he cannot play ever again. I think this is an example of never underestimating the power of social media. Epic Games could lose a fan base because of the outburst against their decision to permanently ban FaZe Jarvis.
Until Next Time,
James
I know nothing about about Fortnite, but this does seem like a big deal. I've had friends who were really into Fortnite and would watch streaming videos for hours. Banning him makes sense thought because a lot of streamers make money from playing their games.
